Dad,
How could I have known that our last " love you" and " goodbye", last Sunday evening, would be, forever, our last "love you" and " goodbye"?
I feel privileged and blessed to have chanced to be the person you spoke with before leaving this world. We spoke for an hour about your dialysis, the painful needle pricks, the long tedious hours confined to a chair while your legs cramped, 3 x a week. We spoke about the dinner you had just eaten, a small microwave feast. We spoke of the pain you were experiencing and the extreme difficulty of just getting around. We spoke of you helping Delmar with a new water heater. We spoke of fishing. We ALWAYS spoke of fishing. We spoke of Mom. I'll miss our conversation Dad.
I'm so lucky to have such a wonderful Father. You taught me so many life lessons that I take with me every day of my life. Always a helping hand, always generous , always caring of family and friends. You taught me how to work with my hands, how to fix things, how to build things. You taught me about finances , saving, and dividends . You taught me how to fish.
You were always there for me, Dad. You worked odd jobs after your regular 40 hours, just to put me through school. You came all the way across the country on numerous occasions for weeks at a time, much to Mom's chagrin, to help Gail and me with various building projects. You once pounded shingles when the volcanic ash from Mt. St. Helens covered the roof.
So many fond memories Dad. So many fond memories .
I'll miss you, we'll miss you,
Your loving son,
Steven
