John "Doug" Overfield's Obituary
John “Doug” Overfield, 76, of Decatur, IL, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family at 12:30 A.M. on Friday (09-16-2022) at his residence.
Doug was born on September 23, 1945 in Clay, KY, the son of John Voit Overfield and Edna Earl (Litchfield) Overfield. He married Jennifer Sue Hunt on September 19, 1970 in Maroa, IL.
Doug was a member of Lampstand Presbyterian Church, Decatur, IL. He also served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Doug worked at Caterpillar for 40 years, retiring in 2018. He loved gardening, was an avid Cub fan, was a great man of faith, and immensely loved his family.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer of nearly 52 years of marriage; Daughters: Mary Morgan and husband David of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Katie Carder and husband Jason of Jackson Hole, Wyoming; five grandchildren: Matthew Lambert, Holly Joy Lambert, Hannah Overfield, Cainan Rodriquez and Dalton Carder; four great-grandchildren: Jaxon Overfield, Clover Overfield, Cooper Lambert and Ivy Lambert, and one sister Rita Rupert of Decatur, IL.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents John and Edna Overfield and two sisters: Janice Moore and Kathy Elliot.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday (09-22-2022) at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Graveside services will be held at Graceland cemetery following the service.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's ICU or Lampstand Presbyterian Church.
