John "Pops" Robert Logan's Obituary
Argenta-John “Pops” R. Logan, 85, of Argenta, passed away Thursday evening, October 23, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur.
Pops was born February 3, 1929 in Decatur to John Ruhr and Gladys Marie (Long) Logan. He married Donna Carlene White on June 25, 1949 in Decatur. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from Caterpilar after more than 20 years of service. He was a member of Argenta Baptist Church, 32nd degree mason with the Stephen Decatur Lodge, Springfield Consistory for 50 years, and a member of the Shriners for 51 years.
When Doug and Jeff were young, Popsy so enjoyed taking them on many camping trips. His grandson Cory was his sidekick and he loved taking him to Casey’s and for rides in his pickup truck.
Pops was a man of few words and had the kindest heart and soul. He truly was a loving compassionate husband, father, and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Donna; two sons, Doug “Chief” (Valentina) Logan of Decatur and Jeff Logan of Oreana; one grandson, Cory Logan; two great-grandsons, Gabe Logan and Cory Lee Logan, Jr.; four brothers, Dewayne “JR” Logan of Decatur, Derald “Big” (Doris) Logan of Decatur, Gerald “Tiny” Logan of Decatur and Tom (Janet) Logan of Little Rock, AR; two sisters, Mary Reagan of Decatur and Darlene “Dot” Logan both of Decatur.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters.
The family would like to give a special thanks and gratitude to CHELP assistants Judy Jackson and Amy Dempsy.
Honoring John’s wishes, cremation will take place at Graceland/Fairlawn Crematory. There will be no public services at this time. Memorials may be directed to Argenta Fire Department or Argenta Baptist Church.
