John Traughber's Obituary
Decatur-John William Traughber, 82, of Decatur died at 10:25am Wednesday,November 9, 2011 in his home with his family by his side.
A service to celebrate John's life will be 10 a.m. Monday, November 14, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with a visitation 2 ' 4 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church.
Mr. Traughber was born on December 26, 1928 in Decatur, IL son of John and Rita (Inman) Traughber. He married Lois (McBride) in Decatur, IL 50 years ago. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Decatur. He retired from Illinois Power after 36 years and loved stained glass, gospel music, and telling stories. He was an ordained pastor with the Church of the Brethren.
He is survived by his wife Lois, sons Terry Burge of Hoffman Estates, IL and Tim (Michelle) Burge of Crystal Lake, IL, and daughters Melinda (Larry) Schmitz of Plainfield, IN, Sandra (George Grimes) Burge of San Antonio, TX, and Shari (Terry) Bruyn of Findlay, IL, brother Dale (Kelly) Traughber of Evening Shades, AR, sisters Helen (William) Ponting in Blue Mound, IL, Jean (Dale) McClure of Decatur, IL, and Ruth Williams of Decatur, IL, and granddaughters Sara (Zach) Lindner of Plainfield, IN, Tracie (Patrick) McConnell of Cedar Rapids, IA, Alison and Kristin Burge of Hoffman Estates, IL, grandsons Andrew Tuttle of Palatine, IL, Brent Burge of Chicago, IL, Dirk and Pete Bruyn of Findlay, IL, and great-grandchildren Katie, Wyatt and Evan and a whole host of nieces, nephews, and family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Leota Cotton and Betty Eagleton.
