John Michael Westerfield's Obituary
John M. Westerfield, 60, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday (05-22-2024) at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
John was born on July 6, 1963, the son of Lawrence A. and Nancy K. (Wise) Westerfield. He was born in Decatur, Il, and raised in the west end and southwest side of town.
John attended Dennis Grade School, Woodrow Wilson Junior High, Douglas MacArthur High School and was in the Graduating Class of 1981.
A hard worker with a lot of drive, a big heart and a highly competitive nature. Strong, loyal, and fearless Johnny found the sport of running cross country in grade school. Starting with the Staley Striders under Coach Harbeck. He loved to run and did so through high school. Johnny thoroughly enjoyed anything and everything associated with the Great Outdoors. Archery, hunting, fishing, trapping, etc... Johnny started working at a young age in the fields of Macon County walking beans. He started at the Decatur Park District as a grounds keeper while in high school. Later, Wagner Castings, Crown Cork and Seal, and Laborer’s Union Local #159- retired.
Johhny lived, worked, played and loved hard. A son, a brother, a father, a grandfather, an uncle and friend. He was loved and will be missed.
As per his last wish, Johhny was cremated and ashes will be spread along the river. Tentatively a remembrance is being planned for July 6, 2024.
He is survived by his father “Brother Larry”, daughter Teal and grandchild, brother David, sister Mika, nephews Dustin and Tucker.
