John Vernon Yadon's Obituary
Decatur-John Vernon Yadon, 90, of Decatur, went to be with the Lord at 9:45 p.m. Monday, December 9, 2013 in Fair Havens Christian Home.
John was born August 28, 1923 in Rolla, Kansas, the son of John N. and Mable E. (Glover) Yadon. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as part of the 743 tank battalion from 1943-1945 during World War II. He was on Omaha Beach on D-Day and took part in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was previously employed in sales and then with his wife was the owner/operator of Sweet Pea’s Balloonery where he became known as Sweet Pea the Clown. He attended New Beginnings Church of God and enjoyed bowling and all sports especially baseball.
John married Melba Warfel December 31, 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri. This union was blessed with two sons John A. Yadon and his lovely wife Donna of Yorba Linda, California and Greg Yadon of Decatur, five grandchildren, two wonderful granddaughters-in-law, and five great-grandchildren. Each held a very special place in John’s heart and he loved having them near him.
John leaves behind his beloved wife, sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and special in-laws.
John was reunited in Heaven with his parents, three brothers, and one sister.
The greatest joy in John’s life was having the family all together for family dinners and holiday get together and hearing the laughter and fun generated there.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Fair Havens Christian Home and Safe Haven Hospice for all of their loving care, compassion, support, and prayers.
John will be greatly missed by all those who love him. Sweet memories will remain with us forever.
Services to celebrate John’s life will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 in New Beginnings Church of God, 2606 Illinois 121 Decatur, IL 62526. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 in the church. Burial with military honors will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the New Beginnings Church of God.
