Johnny Hugh Garner Sr's Obituary
Johnny H. Garner, Sr., 84, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away July 20, 2025.
Johnny was born in McComb, MS, on September 8, 1940, to John and Emma Lee (Knox) Garner. As an adult, he moved to Cairo, IL, where he met and married Carleen Hightower on November 24, 1959. Together they moved to Decatur, IL, where he worked at Wagner Castings for 40 years until his retirement. After retiring, he worked at KMart watering flowers.
Johnny is survived by his wife Carleen; children Patricia Winfrey (Darnell), Belinda Turner, Johnny H. Garner Jr. (Vonda), James F. Garner, Erika Hawkins, and Lastachia E. Garner; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth Garner (Annie); and 4 beloved nieces. He was preceded in death by his mother Emma Lee, daughters Linda Turner and Angelina Garner, daughter-in-law Cynthia Garner, nephew David, niece Carmen, and great-grandson Jordan.
Visitation for Johnny will begin at 10am Saturday, July 26, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur. Homegoing service will begin at 11am in the funeral home and will be followed by burial in Graceland Cemetery.
