Joseph Bernard Connelly's Obituary
Joseph Bernard Connelly, 91, engineer, mechanic, builder, husband, father and friend to all animals, Joe Connelly, passed on April 29th, 2018. Joe was born in Yonkers, New York on Christmas Eve in 1926. Toughened by the Great Depression and intensely patriotic, he lied about his age to join the Navy during WWII. After serving in the Pacific Joe got his high school and college diplomas and became an engineer for Anaconda Wire and Cable, a profession that later brought him to Illinois to work for Essex Cable in Decatur. An Illinois resident for more than fifty years, Joe was resourceful and dilligent with tools. He enjoyed creating durable things and fixing whatever was broken. He was preceded in death by Barbara, his devoted wife for 61 years, his son Lee, and dozens of four-legged friends, both canine and feline. He is survived by his sister Lois of Irvington, NY, son Dale and daughter-in-law Nancy of New Brighton, MN, and grandson Gus of Memphis TN.
