Joseph L. "Joe" Crane's Obituary
Decatur-Joseph L. “Joe” Crane, 95, of Decatur, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 in McKinley Court.
Joe was born September 8, 1918 in Sullivan, Illinois, the son of Logan and Eliza (Fleming) Crane. He proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was deeply honored to be able to go on the “Honor Flight”. He retired from Mueller Company where he was a galvanizer. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and cooking. Joe was known for his pies and was still cooking up until recently. He married Eileen Kayhs October 5, 1946. She preceded him in death January 10, 2013.
Joe leaves behind his daughter Jacque Mannakee, grandchildren Michael Mannakee, Kim Allen, and Brianne Allen, great-grandchildren Jude Breitwieser, Max Joseph Mannakee and Charlie Mannakee, son-in-law Neil Allen, and sister-in-law Mildred (Harold) Fleener.
Joe was reunited in Heaven with his parents, wife, daughter Jean Crane Allen, brother Louis Crane, and sisters Mary Brown, Corinne Thurm, Rosamond Crane, Opal Yarnell, and Daisy Crane.
Services to celebrate Joe’s life will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2014 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services. Burial with military honors will be in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Long Creek United Methodist Church.
