Joseph Martin's Obituary
Joseph “Marty” Luke Armand Martin passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. He was born January 14, 1944 to Luc and Donata Beaulieu Martin in New Britain, Connecticut. They soon returned to their home in Grand Isle, Maine and remained there until returning to Connecticut twelve years later. Marty learned to speak English at the age of eleven. He briefly attended Central Connecticut State College. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1966. He married Thelma Chambers on May 15, 1965 in Rantoul. He worked for Goodyear for seven years prior to starting his own business, Marty’s Tire and Auto Sales, which he operated for 41 years.
He was a member of the Symphony Orchestra Guild of Decatur and St. James and Patrick Parish. Boating was his passion.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, his sons Armand (LeAnne Peters), Remi (Chai); grandsons Armi (Heather), Brennan (Dominique), Ian and Liam; three great grandchildren Grady Spitzer, McKenzie Spitzer-Martin, and Natalie Martin, and daughter-in-law Evett Martin. He also leaves two sisters Jeanne Gorneault, Ann Ross, and two brothers Roland (Diane) and Robert (Karen); four sisters-in-law Alora Cope, Mary Chambers, Dana (Brian) Hershey, and Chris (Jong Joon) Chun. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers-in-law Randy Ross, Winslow Cope, and Craig Chambers; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday at St. Patrick’s Church at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.
