Joseph "Russ" Salmieri's Obituary
Decatur-Joseph 'Russ' Salmieri, 64, of Decatur, passed away 12:31 p.m. Sunday, August 21, 2011 at Decatur Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
Services to celebrate Russ' life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at the funeral home. Interment with full military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will be in the Veteran's Section at Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Macon County Honor Guard.
Russ was born March 19, 1947 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Joseph and Helen (Mann) Salmieri. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was previously employed with the Local #1 Pipe Covers in St. Louis. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed woodworking. He married Sue Peck July 17, 1982.
He leaves behind his wife, Sue, sons, Mike Salmieri of Decatur, Joe Salmieri and wife Jennifer of St. Charles, Illinois, Nick Salmieri and wife Kara of Naperville, Vincent Salmieri and girlfriend Allison Scobbie of Edwardsville, and Charlie Peck of Decatur, grandchildren, Andrew and Annabel Salmieri, sister, Sue Juede of Indianapolis, Indiana, step-sister, Doris Murphy and husband Dan of St. Louis, and special aunt and uncle, George and Ann Salmieri of St. Louis.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents and step-brothers, Danny and Tony O'Gorman.
