Joyce Jane Bell (Mitchell)'s Obituary
Joyce J. Bell (Mitchell), 71, of Jacksonville, Illinois was called home to be with our Lord on Monday, May 3rd, 2021 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Joyce was born March 27, 1950 at Decatur and Macon County Hospital in Decatur, IL. She was the daughter of Everett Churchill & Etta Louise Bell. Survivors include her son, Glenn W. Stephenson (D’Anne) of McKinney, TX; grandchildren Austin Stephenson, Allie Stephenson and Colton Stephenson of McKinney, TX; sisters Bea (Jerry) Dawson of Decatur, IL, Wanda (Don) Hass of Arlington, TX and Zonda (Jim) Bodiford of McKinney, TX; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Audrey Burgett, Rachel Barlow and Penny Bell, brothers: Douglas Bell and Allen Everett Bell.
Joyce grew up in Decatur, Illinois. She attended Mt. Zion High School. Being from a large family with eight siblings, she was fiercely independent and very organized. Throughout her life she lived in Central Illinois, North Texas and Southern Illinois. Upon retirement she returned to Central Illinois as this is where her heart was. While she worked many types of jobs throughout the years, her professional career was mostly spent in the insurance industry. She was passionate about sewing while enjoying many types of arts and crafts. Joyce also devoted much time to studying the bible and made it part of her daily routine. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 7th, 2021 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home, Decatur (2091 N. Oakland Ave), IL.
