Joyce K. Downen's Obituary
Decatur – Joyce K. Downen, 73, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, September 17, 2020, in her home surrounded by family.
Joyce was born April 3, 1947, in Moweaqua, the daughter of Niland Dean and Velma June (Rhoades) Stivers. A homemaker and member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Joyce married Lavern Downen on October 21, 1966 in Moweaqua. She loved singing in the choir at church, cooking, sewing, gardening and her family, especially her grandchildren.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Lavern of Decatur; son, Craig M. Downen; daughters: Kimberly (Craig) Kramer and Amanda (James) Wimmer; grandchildren: Kimberly (Russ) Broshous, Zach Broshous Cain Downen, Hannah Wimmer, Corbin Downen, Jack Kramer, Matthew Wimmer, Lainey Kramer, Ryan Kramer, and Noah Wimmer; brothers: Frederick (Cheryl) Stivers, Paul (Gail) Stivers and Wayne (Tam) Stivers; sisters: Bonnie (Bob) Amman and Esther (Mark) Krein; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, sister Sandra Potter, sister in law Candy Stivers, and niece Crystal Amman.
Visitation will be from 3 pm to 5 pm Sunday, September 20, 2020, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Graveside services to celebrate her life will be 11 am Monday, September 21, 2020, at Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
CDC guidelines will be followed, masks are required.
