Joyce E. Burton's Obituary
Decatur-Joyce E. Burton, 82, of Decatur, passed away Saturday, November 07, 2015, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services to celebrate Joyce’s life will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be at a later date in Macon County Memorial Park.
Joyce was born March 20, 1933 in Lincoln, IL, the daughter of John and Gladys Hedger. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1951 and promptly was employed by Bell Telephone Company in Decatur. Later she was employed by Goldblatt’s Department Store as a switchboard receptionist. She worked in many capacities at Goldblatt’s, and was made Personal Supervisor in 1962. She was employed by J.C. Penney as a receptionist and later as an auditor for the store. Joyce was a member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and Wabash Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She attended Grace United Methodist Church. She married James W. Burton on July 3, 1953, and they shared 60 wonderful years together. He preceded her in death on October 25, 2013.
She is survived by her son, Eric Burton of Fresno, CA; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, J. David Hedger of Sedro-Woolley, WA; sister, Donna Yago of Pittsburg, PA; and her family and friends at the Wabash Fitness Center.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son, J. Daniel Burton; daughter, Angela Burton; brother, Richard Hedger and sister, Marilynn Davis.
