Joyce J. Van Meter's Obituary
Joyce J. Van Meter, 74, of Decatur passed away on Saturday March 26, 2011 in her home.
Joyce was born on June 6, 1936 in Decatur the daughter of Elmer and Generva (Turntine) Burns. She started her working career at Citizens National Bank she also worked at Western Electric, Borg Warner, and Wagnor Castings all in Decatur. She moved to Florida in 1980 and was a co-property manager for twenty years. She has been back in Decatur for nearly the last five years. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and going to the beach. She married James R Van Meter Sr. in Decatur on May of 1957.
Surviving are her husband, James; sons, Joseph R. Van Meter (Kim) of Sarasota, FL; James R. Van Meter Jr. of Decatur; daughter, Jeri 'Joy' Evans of Forsyth; sisters, Kay Goodman (Rex) of Decatur; Diana Putnum (Jim) of Tallahassee, FL; Judith Zaprzalka of Toms River, NJ; grandchildren, Beau Evans, Lindsey Evans, Jeremy Van Meter, Adam Van Meter, and Christopher Van Meter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Charles, Don, and Larry Burns.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to CNA caregiver, Cassandra Long for all her care and support.
Memorial service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday March 30, 2011 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Shirley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home.
