Judy Wiggins' Obituary
Judith R. Wiggins, 77 of Decatur, passed away January 20, 2019.
Judy was born December 6, 1941 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Forest M. and Frances (Kohlbecker) Wiggins. She was a graduate of St. Teresa High School and went on to earn both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education at EIU. With her education, Judy went to work for the Mt. Zion School District as both a teacher and coach, where she retired after 30-plus years in education.
After retiring, Judy had more time to devote to the things that she loved most – golf, travel, and spending more time with her adored family and friends. Volunteer work was another area she was able to explore in retirement. She was a member of the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary where she was able to devote time and her gift of woodworking talent in helping to create beautiful items to sell at their holiday bazaars, using the money raised to purchase equipment and other necessary items for the hospital. Judy was a member of the Wild Women Golf League and Decatur Women’s Golf Association. She played both Hickory and Red Tail golf courses. She also served as past President of the Scovil League. Her big thrill was hitting a hole in one on August 23, 2011 at Scovil golf course on hole number 3 with her 6 wood. Judy was a member of Saint Patrick’s Church for many years.
Judy is survived by her nieces Michele (Randy) Peters of Yucaipa, CA and Lisa (Shane) Vanderfin of Wildomar, CA, as well as her great-nieces Hilary Peters and Alison Vanderfin, and Great-nephew Garrett Peters, all of California. She also leaves behind many loved extended family and special friends. Preceding her in death are her parents, as well as older brothers Dick and Tom, and her nephew Michael Wiggins (son of Dick Wiggins). Judy was cherished by so many people and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be held at Saint Patrick’s Church on Saturday, January 26. Visitation will begin at 10 AM, followed by a service at 11 AM. Graceland Fairlawn/Moran & Goebel have been entrusted with the care and service arrangements.
Judy also requested that a party be held in her honor for family members and friends. Party will be at Coz’s on Sunday, January 27 from 1-3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Judy’s memory to either the St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, Cancer Care Center, or the American Cancer Society.
