Kathryn Ditty's Obituary
Decatur-Kathryn E. Ditty, 91, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2011 at Heartland Health Care of Decatur.
A service to celebrate the life of Kathryn will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with a visitation 10:00 a.m. to the time of service at the funeral home. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Moundford Free Methodist Church Food Pantry. Kathryn was born July 2, 1919 in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Barney and Jennie (Edwards) Riley. Kathryn worked for Shudels Laundry as a young woman and then worked for the Mueller Company during the war until she was married. After her youngest child started school she worked as a “Lunch Lady” at Garfield School for several years. She was a lifetime member of the IL PTA and a member of the Moundford Free Methodist Church in Decatur. After Charles’ death she played cards with some gals weekly and enjoyed going out to eat with the “Garfield Girls” monthly. She moved into Eagle Ridge Assisted Living facility in January of 2004 and loved her beautiful apartment and all the wonderful people there. She married Charles Ditty on December 1, 1945 he preceded her in death May 12, 1987.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, sons; Larry Ditty and wife Betty of Decatur , and Douglas Ditty and wife Debbie of Powell, OH, and Gregory Ditty of Decatur, daughter; Nancy McDermith and husband Larry of Cerro Gordo, grandchildren; Dustin and wife Jodi of Sullivan, Lisa Nevitt and husband Pat of Woodstock, GA; Jason Ditty and wife Heather of Fort Worth, TX; Julie Jackson and husband Bob of Mulberry Grove, IL; Heather Baxter and husband Jeff of Galena, OH; Brian Ditty and wife Jenny of Worthington, OH; and Shaun Ditty of Powell, OH; and Alexander Ditty of Missouri, 13 great-grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Kathryn was greeted into Heaven by her husband, parents, grandson; Roger McDermith, brothers; John, Van, Dean, and Delbert, sisters; Ruth and Maxine.
On August 26, 2010 she had a stroke and spent her last months at Heartland Healthcare Home. She received wonderful care from all the workers there. The family would like to thank all the wonderful staff that cared for her.
