Kathryn "Katie" Rhodes' Obituary
Our loving grandmother, Kathryn “Katie” Rhodes, of Decatur, went to be with her Lord and loved ones on Wednesday, November 19, 2014. She lived a great life to the age of 96 years old.
Kathryn was born June 29, 1918, the daughter of Cleveland and Naomi Ginder. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1937. Kathryn was a member of the Methodist church. She worked at A. E. Staley Manufacturing Company for 40 years until she retired to Port Charlotte, FL for almost 30 years. Kathryn and her husband moved back to Decatur in January 2007 and lived at Primrose Retirement Community. Kathryn married Duane Rhodes on December 18, 1952 in Decatur, and they shared 59 wonderful years together. Duane preceded her in death on June 26, 2012.
Kathryn leaves behind her granddaughter, Sherry (Mark) Miller of Decatur; and great grandson, Trevor Miller.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Duane; parents; son, Bill Kazmierski; and great-granddaughter, Marie Carnahan.
A memorial service to celebrate Kathryn’s life will be 3:30 pm Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Kathryn “Katie” Rhodes may be donated in care to Trevor Miller for his track and field.
The family would like to give special thanks to Primrose Retirement Community, DMH Hospice, and to the nurses on the 5th floor of Decatur Memorial Hospital for all their care and kindness.
