Kay Anne Theobald's Obituary
Kay A Theobald (Kane), 86, of Decatur, IL, was reunited in heaven with her husband, Richard, on June 14, 2025. Their reunion was just in time for them to celebrate their 68th wedding anniversary together.
Kay was born on November 29, 1938, in Bloomington, IL, to William and Bernadine Kane (Wilson). Her parents owned and operated Wilson’s Ice Cream Shop in Bloomington, IL, before moving to Decatur, IL, where Kay graduated from Decatur High School in 1956.
Kay was united in marriage to Richard M Theobald, Sr, on June 15, 1957. They had a beautiful life together full of dancing, traveling, and making memories with their loved ones until Richard passed in 2004.
During her lifetime, Kay enjoyed volunteering for the PTA and working imn the cafeteria at MacArthur High School. After that, she went and worked for the Houran and Kenney families at Houran’s Ben Franklin and Kenney’s Ace Hardware. She spent nearly 40 years serving the customers, whether she was doing balloon events for the community or working the front counter at Ace.
Surviving are Kay’s children Becky (Tom) Briney, MS, Richard M (Angie) Theobald, Jr, GA, Peggy (Mike) Metzger, IL, Jeff (Sharlynn) Theobald, AL, and Julie (Pat) Mulrooney, IL; eleven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters Debbie (Mark Burcham) Miller, IL; sisters-in-law Rose Kane, Carol (Terry Jones, IL and Gail Theobald, TX; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; her very best friends Soupy and Jane; and the Kenney and Ace families.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband, mother and father, one brother, mother and father-in-law, two brother-sin-law, one sister-in-law, one nephew, one niece, one granddaughter, and one great-granddaughter.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Memorial Care’s hospice team, but especially Tracy. We will never forget the love and care you had for Kay.
Visitation for Kay will be from 12pm to 1pm on Monday, June 23 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow at 1pm. Burial in Graceland Cemetery will follow the service. Condolences may be shared with the family at https://www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
