Kenneth Horve's Obituary
Kenneth Raymond 'Kenny' Horve, 93, of Decatur died Monday, November 19th, 2012. Kenny was born on August 25, 1919 in Sandwich, Illinois the son of Malfred & Anna (Renewick) Horve. He married Margaret (Peg) Boland on December 14th, 1940. She preceded him in death in March 2009. She was the absolute love of his life and he has missed her dearly. Kenny retired as an engineer from the Wabash (Norfolk Southern) Rail Road. He was also a homebuilder in Decatur and the surrounding area. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling, playing on many leagues in the city. He also enjoyed golf and was a member of Southside Country Club. He was a United States Navy veteran and a Mason. In his later years he enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports along with his Chicago Cubs. He never quit believing they might win! He enjoyed his morning breakfast and coffee with his retired railroad friends and sons driving every day to the Homewood Inn & Suites to see them. He also enjoyed his weekly dinners out with his daughter Carol.
Visitation to celebrate Kenneth Horve's life will be Sunday, November 25th, 2012 from 2p.m. to 4p.m. at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, 2901 N. Oakland Avenue, Decatur, IL, with a memorial service at 4:00p.m. Private family burial will be at a later date.
Surviving Kenny are his children, Steve R. (Odette) Horve of Forsyth; Mike K. (Marty) Horve of Oakley; and Carol Fisher of Decatur; grandchildren, Steve (Tina), Jeff (Michelle), and Jacob Horve of Forsyth; Rodney, Chad (Miranda) and Kevin Horve of Decatur; Keith (Julie) Voelker of Forsyth; Matt (Jennifer) Voelker of Decatur and Holly Fisher of Decatur; granddaughter by love Gabrielle Sams of Forsyth; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Will, Gunnar, Lucas & Jack Horve all of Forsyth; Brian and Brooke Voelker of Forsyth; Rylee Voelker of Decatur; step great-granddaughters, Brittany & Samantha McKinney of Forsyth; Payton Wooten of Decatur; sister & brother-in-law Harry & Betty McGowan of St. Anne, IL; sister-in- law, Martha Boland of Westville, IL; and brother-in-law, Leo Boland of Kankakee; Several nieces and nephews; friends, Gene Backensto , Jerry Bean and the staff at Homewood Suites, Forsyth.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 68 years, Margaret 'Peg' Horve; sister Violet Banks; brother & sister-in-law Wilbert & Ardith Horve; brother and sister-in-law Marshall & Louise Horve; brother-in-law Bob Boland; grandson Phillip Voelker; great-grandchildren Nathan & Elizabeth Horve.
The family would like to extend a special thank you for the love and care given to Kenny by his doctors & caregivers.
Kenny was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather & friend. He will be so dearly missed by all who knew him.
