Kenneth Dale Sloan's Obituary
Kenneth Dale Sloan, 80, passed away February 24, 2025. He was born July 7, 1944, son of Henry and Lola Sloan. Dale was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lola Sloan and brother Richard Larry Sloan. He is survived by his wife Linda of 58 years, daughters Angela (Todd) Street and Lori (Paige) Griffy, five precious granddaughters Madison (Stephen) Reed, Julia (Srgt. Christopher) Gromnicki, Elizabeth Griffy, Tess Street, Hillary Griffy, and two soon to be great grandchildren.
Dale was a graduate of Stonington High School, Millikin University, and the University of Illinois. He taught and coached at Macon Junior High School where he touched the lives of many of his students, which resulted in lifelong friendships. Dale then taught Nuclear training for Illinois Power Company and ended his career as an educator for the State of Illinois. Dale had many hobbies including singing in the Chancel Choir at Grace United Methodist Church in Decatur, Illinois, as well as being an avid sportsman; enjoying fishing, running, refereeing, golfing, and cheering on the Atlanta Braves where he followed the career of the Manager, one of his former students. Dale was a friend of Bill’s. He loved to socialize and make a connection with everyone he met. Dale first grew in his Christian faith at The First Baptist Church of Stonington Illinois. He continued this faith journey throughout his life in Decatur and Eustis Florida. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bayview Care Center and to all of his mentors in the Decatur and Eustis community.
A service celebrating Dale’s life will be held July 26, 2025, at Camp Wilson Foursquare Church, Harristown, Illinois. The visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. with a service immediately following. Memorials may be sent to The First Baptist Church of Stonington, Illinois, or to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
