Kevin Dale Schawitsch's Obituary
Kevin Dale Schawitsch, 56, of Payson formerly of Decatur, Illinois, died at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2017 in his home.
Born September 23, 1960 in Decatur, Illinois, Kevin was the son of L. Dale Schawitsch and Carol O’Donnell Schawitsch Rogers.
A 1978 graduate of Mt. Zion High School, Kevin was an avid thrill seeker, and loved anything involving speed, especially open wheel sprint cars and motorcycles. In January of 2017, Kevin raced in the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and had previously competed in various sprint car races including Jacksonville, Macomb, IL and Knoxville IA. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, go-carts and riding snowmobiles. Kevin owned Discount Battery Sales in Hamilton, Illinois for several years before retiring due to ill health.
Survivors include his partner of twenty-eight years, love of his life, and soulmate, Lori Aden, of Payson; his mother, Carol Rogers of Decatur, IL; a brother Michael L. Schawitsch of Anamosa, IA; a step-mother, Brenda Schawitsch of Quincy; a niece Ashley Story and great nieces and nephews, Lane, Arizona, and Giovanni Story; aunts Agnes Christman and Sharon (Phil) Hagen; and many other beloved family members.
Mr. Schawitsch was preceded in death by his father, and his uncles Jackie O’Donnell and Bud Christman.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur, Illinois. Burial will be at Mount Gilead Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, June 26, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home, in Quincy, Illinois. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home in Decatur, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Shriner’s Hospital.
