Larry Ray Harris' Obituary
Larry Ray Harris, 87, of Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, in Springfield, IL.
Larry was born in Decatur on December 3, 1938, to the late Lyle Jack Harris and Dorothy Flowers Harris. He married Betty Fuqua on August 9, 1964, and spent nearly 61 years at her side before she preceded him in death on June 13, 2025.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of First Baptist Church in Decatur. Larry retired from a career in maintenance management, first at Decatur Memorial Hospital and later at the Decatur Public Library. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, boating, listening to music from the 50’s and 60’s, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by: six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sister, Judy Madding and husband Jerry; and close friends, David & Donna Thorpe.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife, Larry is preceded in death by: two children, Michael R. Harris and Mindy S. Morris; one brother, David Harris; and lifelong friend, David Causey.
Visitation for Larry Harris will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Funeral service officiated by Pastor Chris Chambers will begin promptly at 1:00 PM, with burial and military honors to follow in Mt. Zion Township Cemetery.
