Larry William Klaus, Sr.'s Obituary
Larry William Klaus, Sr., 73, died peacefully at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Illinois on October 15, 2019.
Larry was born on July 6, 1946, in Decatur, Illinois to Carl Heinz and Mary (Davis) Klaus. He married Diana Kay Knutt on October 3, 1965. He served four years in the Navy on the U.S.S. Yorktown. While serving, he and his wife welcomed their son, Larry, Jr. in Long Beach, California. At the end of his service, he returned to his position with Norfolk & Southern in Decatur, Illinois where he worked until he retired in 2006. Larry was a patient and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved vintage cars, movies, puzzles, and his dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Diana, his grandchildren, Jessica (Tyler) Mitchell, Jarod (Bryanna) Klaus, and Jaden Klaus, and his great-grandchildren, Hank Klaus and Ava Mitchell. He is also survived by his six siblings, Carl, Allen, Sharon, Kathy, Carolyn, and Bruce. He is preceded in death by his parents, his son Jason who died in infancy, and his son Larry Jr. who passed away to cancer at 41.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Larry Klaus, Sr. will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2019 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial immediately following services at North Fork Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to the charity of your choice in Larry’s name.
