Laurie Frances Thompson's Obituary
Laurie Thompson, 76, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away peacefully in her home on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
Laurie was born on November 26, 1947, in Decatur, IL to Paul and Mary Ellen Heffernan. She grew up and raised her family in Decatur after marrying her husband, Ron Thompson, on February 22, 1964.
Laurie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was endlessly curious, always reading and watching shows to learn more about the world. Pop culture, history, politics, true crime - you name it, and she could probably tell you at least a little bit about it. She and her husband loved to travel, usually visiting casinos and historical sites. Her favorite place, though, was at home with a good book/show or surrounded by family.
Laurie is survived by her daughter, Krista Thompson, grandchildren Jarid (Colleen) Thompson of Tampa Florida, Jade Joseph of Gresham Oregon, Kaylee (Jake) Sigmon of Mount Zion Illinois, Trace (Rachel) Andrini of Gresham Oregon, great-grandchildren Remi and Brixton Thompson, Jack Joseph, and Dawson Sigmon, her brother, Michael Heffernan of Decatur IL, and many nieces and nephews.
Laurie was preceded in death by her husband Ron Thompson, her son Darin Thompson, her parents, and her beloved sisters - Ellen Copeland, Paula Keller, Lucy Auvil, Margaret Drake, Jan McCoy, Judy Snyder, and Frances Heffernan.
Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home is providing cremation services for Laurie. A graveside service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in Fairlawn Cemetery. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
