Decatur-Lavern Lee Harmon, 79 of Rosiclaire, Illinois, formerly of Decatur, passed away December 10, 2008.
Memorial services to celebrate Lavern’s life will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2009 in the chapel at the Star of Hope Mausoleum at Graceland Cemetery with the “Flight Home” Ceremony concluding the service. Memorial visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2009 at the Star of Hope. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Lavern was born March 22, 1929 in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of John and Ann (Berry) Harmon. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was the owner and operator of Harmon Carpet, retiring after thirty-five years of service. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a founding member of the SKI Club of Illinois. He married Paula Myers on March 2, 1964.
He leaves behind Paula, his beloved wife of forty-four years, daughters; Kristy Ann Wells of New Berry, South Carolina and Linda Sue King and husband James of Blue Springs, Missouri, sisters; Phyllis Doswell of Decatur, Ellen Mahnke of Crawfordville, Florida, and Virginia Franklin and husband Gene of Decatur, and grandchildren; Quinton and Mikeala Wells and Gabriel and Aidan King.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-son John Holderness, and sister Clara Lear.
