Leo Scott's Obituary
Leo Scott, 81, passed away on July 6, 2023, at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, IL.
Leo was born to Charlie and Lonnie (Cole) Scott on November 12, 1941, in America, IL. He married Lena Jean Smith on July 3, 1963, in Carbondale, IL and had three children. They spent 58 years of marriage together until he lost her in December 2021. Leo was a graduate of Attucks High School in Carbondale, IL and both he and Lena enjoyed going to the Spirit of Attucks Celebration every 4th of July weekend.
Leo grew up in the church and was baptized as a young man. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church while living in Carbondale and transferred his membership to Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur upon relocating his family. While at Ebenezer, Leo served as a Deacon, a member of the Usher Board and helped in many other capacities.
Leo was employed at Mississippi Valley when he first moved to Decatur and then left to join UPS. He was there for many years, starting as a local package driver and retiring as a feeder driver. He enjoyed his time with UPS, but he also loved his retirement. When he and Lena were not traveling following their grandson Gary Jr.’s football and basketball games, as well as his track meets: he could be found following the Dodgers Baseball Games on the radio or watching the Dallas Cowboys…America’s Team on television.
Leo is survived by his children: daughters, Patricia Tarallo and Chrystal (Victor) Tally-Nnaemeka; son, Gary (Dana) Scott Sr.; siblings: sisters, Christine (Verne) Allison and Hazel Scott – Miller; brothers, Calvin Scott and Kenneth Scott; grandchildren: Sparkle, Cordell, Rachel, Spencer and Gary Jr.; great grandchildren: Trimarion, Shimaria, Cordell Jr., Aria and Za’Nya; a dachshund named Buddy and many extended family and friends.
Leo is preceded in death by his wife Lena; parents, Charlie and Lonnie Scott; daughter, Johanna Scott; great grandchild, Ja’Nariyah Scott; sisters Velma (Chester) Tinsley, Minnie Bea (Leonard) Hathaway and Luella (Eulee) Ford; and lastly brother, Eugene Scott.
Services will be held on Saturday July 29, 2023, at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church at 1:00 P.M.
