Leon "Pete" Fornwalt's Obituary
Leon “Pete” Fornwalt, 91, of Forsyth, IL, passed away Monday, May 26, 2025.
Pete was born May 29, 1933, in Forsyth, son of James “Frank” and Sophia Fornwalt. He married Ruby May Tucker on October 3, 1954. He worked at A.E. Staley Mfg. Co. for 35 years in various positions, the last being in 20 Bldg. - Pack & Load. He also had a small business as a wallpaper hanger and painter that he continued long after his retirement from Staleys.
Pete enjoyed being around people, making new friends and creating smiles with his wittiness.
He was truly a wonderful father.
Pete will be greatly missed by his surviving family: daughter, Elaine (Bud) Cripe of Decatur; granddaughters, Terri (Dan) Moore and Kristi Palmer, both of Decatur; great-grandsons, Andrew (Krystal) Bennett of Findlay, Daniel (Shaina) Bennett of Bethany and Oliver (Kara Bratton) Palmer of Decatur; and five great-great-grandchildren, Bailey, Dezi, Rase, Bre and Trintin.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his son, Bill; brothers, Elwood, Kenneth and Floyd; sisters, Faye, Dorothy, Suzanne, Enid Whiteside and Vera Engle.
Visitation for Pete will be from 10am to 11am on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11am after the visitation. Burial in Fairlawn Cemetery will follow the service. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County.
