Leona Meek-Carter's Obituary
Decatur-Leona Meek-Carter, 87, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, March 06, 2016 in Heartland Manor Care.
Leona was born on January 8, 1929 in Dalton City, IL, the daughter of Kenneth and Lona (Camp) Nihiser. Leona enjoyed Macramé, sewing, and most of all, spending time with family. She married Leslie W. Carter on March 12, 1963 in Janesville, WI. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2005. They were together for over forty years.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Nendze-Leach of Plainfield, WI, Jacqueline (Daniel) Gatena of Pickens, SC, Rebecca (Robert) McFadden of Littleton, CO; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren, and twenty-two great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her nieces, Bobbi Golladay and Debbie Coleman both of Decatur.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter, Darina Buono, son, Freddie J. Meek, one granddaughter, one great-grand son, five brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services to celebrate Leona’s life will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Point Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial donations are to be sent to the Alzheimer’s or Dementia Research.
