Lester L. Miller's Obituary
Decatur-Lester L. Miller, 86, of Decatur, passed away Friday, October 3, 2014 in Symphony of Decatur.
He was born May 6, 1928 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Leroy Miller and Ada (Johnson) Miller Albert. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was previously employed as a truck driver with the Teamsters Local #279 retiring with over forty years of service. After retirement he drove for DMH Prime Time for twelve years. He was a member and lay minister at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a member of Charles Parlier Chapter #24 Korean War Veterans Association, and a former Boy Scout leader. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, and his church family. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He married Della Brennan August 28, 1954. They shared over sixty years together.
He leaves behind his wife Della of Decatur, children Cindy Storey of Decatur and Douglas (Joelle) Miller of Norfolk, Virginia, sisters Gladys Berry of Arthur and Helen Burwald of Inverness, Florida, grandchildren Cara (Robert) Francis, Douglas (Casey) Miller, Nick Butcher, Brittney (Guillermo) Girón, and Sarah (Aaron) Braswell, and great-grandchildren Zachary Francis, Eren Girón, and Hadley Braswell.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents, brothers Charles, Leroy, Grover, and Ralph Miller, and sisters Lela Moore, Dorothy Berry, Mary Lasco, and Edna Ponthey.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to their church family at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for all of their prayers, love, and support.
Services to celebrate Lester’s life will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1 Bachrach Ct, Decatur, with Pastor Wray Offermann officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial with military honors will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Paul’s Building Fund or the Macon County Honor Guard.
