Lloyd R. Cunningham's Obituary
Decatur- Lloyd R. Cunningham, 95, of Decatur passed away Sunday, February 1, 2009 at McKinley Court Care Centre.
Services to celebrate Lloyd’s life will be 2:00 pm Friday, February 6, 2009 in the chapel at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 1 – 2 pm at the funeral home. Interment with military honors and “Flight Home” ceremonies will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Lloyd was born May 21, 1913 in Winterowd, IL a son of Charles F. and Hannah (Westfall) Cunningham. He graduated from Effingham High School in 1932. He served his country in the Navy during WW II and The Korean Conflict in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. Lloyd married Wilmoth Crowe Smith on July 20, 1957 in Decatur. He was an inspector with Decatur Signal Depot and then with the Bluegrass Signal Depot in Lexington, Kentucky. He retired from there in 1976 after thirty-four years in Civil Services. He was a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge 602 A. F. and A.M. and Consistory Lodge, Valley of Springfield, IL. Lloyd was also a thirty year member of Northern Heights Christian Church in Lexington, KY.
Lloyd is survived by one sister; Vera (Willis) Keyser of Cisne, IL, and three step children; William C. Smith of Jackson, Tennessee, Byron Smith of Decatur, and Mitzi Smith Parker of Decatur. He leaves several caring nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters; Ruth Brown, Hazel Martin, and Esther Fisher, and brothers; Merle, Curtis, and Berl
