Lloyd Earl "Pete" Smith's Obituary
Lloyd Earl “Pete” Smith, 96, of Forsyth formerly of Pierson Station, Illinois, passed away Thursday, August 07, 2014 in Hickory Point Christian Village.
Lloyd was born September 17, 1917 in Findlay, IL, the son of Earl and Dosa B. (Hudson) Smith. He proudly served his country in the Army during World War II. He was previously employed with Caterpillar as a maintenance welder retiring after thirty-five years of service. He married Ethel Louise Baird on December 21, 1942. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2000. They shared over fifty-seven wonderful years together.
Lloyd leaves behind his son, Michael Lee Smith of Decatur, daughter, Charlotte “Jo” Blair and husband John of Forsyth, grandchildren, Christopher Blair and wife Kim and Tonya Powell and husband Brian, great-grandchildren, Piper, Emerson, and Avery Blair and Sydney Allen.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Scott Smith; and sister Dorothy Schaffer.
Services to celebrate Lloyd’s life will be 11 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 2014 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services. Private family burial with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will be in Marrowbone Cemetery in Bethany, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Lloyd may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital or to The Children’s Miracle Network.
