Lois Chervinko's Obituary
Decatur-Lois Marie Chervinko, 54 of Mt. Zion, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at Decatur Memorial Hospital after bravely battling cancer for a year.
Mass of the Resurrection to celebrate Lois's life will be 10:00 am Monday, January 31, 2011 at St. James Catholic Church, 742 E. Clay in Decatur with Father Jeff Grant Celebrant. Visitation will be from 4 ' 6 pm Sunday at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Entombment will be in the Mary Queen of Angels Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery. Services will conclude with the 'Flight Home' ceremony. Memorial donations may be directed to Cancer Center of Illinois (www.cancercarespecialist.org) or The Andy Caress Melanoma Foundation ( www.mela-know-more.org). Lois was born on November 9, 1956, in Decatur the daughter of Floyd and Ethel (Johns) Scranton. Lois was a graduate of MacArthur High School with the class of 1974. She worked in the insurance business for 35 years, including employment with Kemper Insurance for over 20 years and State Farm Insurance Agent Susanne Vermette for 5 years. For the past 10 years, Lois was employed by J.L. Hubbard Insurance and Bonds. Lois was hired by J.L. Hubbard Insurance and Bonds on April 1, 2000 as a customer service representative. Due to her excellent communication skills and patience, she was moved to the Marketing Department in 2002. After successfully serving in this position, she was promoted to Commercial Lines Assistant Manager on April 30, 2006, and held this position since.
Throughout her employment, she was continually being recognized for her hard work and dedication to the industry. In particular, Lois served on the Accident Fund Advisory Board from 2006 ' 2008. She was awarded the Professional Business Woman of the Year Award from the Business Journal in 2006. Her colleagues looked up to her for advice and leadership. She was a dedicated employee with a heart of gold. She always had a smile and great sense of humor to brighten the office.
Lois was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She loved to travel, shop, relax at the Lake of the Ozarks, and spend time with friends and family. Lois married Michael Robert Chervinko on September 17, 1977, in Decatur.
Left behind to cherish Lois's memories are her husband Michael Chervinko of Mt. Zion; her daughter Tara Marie (husband ' Matthew William) Metully of Washington, IL; her parents Floyd and Ethel (Johns) Scranton of Decatur; her sister Catherine (husband ' Mark) Richert of Decatur; her brothers and sisters in laws Kay (husband ' Larry) Geskey, Kim (husband ' Tom) Heft, James (wife ' Kim) Chervinko, Mary (husband ' Jeff) Johnson, Jeremy Chervinko, and 9 nieces and nephews.
Lois was greeted in Heaven by her grandparents Allen and Ruth Johns, Eacle and Anna Scranton, Aunt Helen Collard, Uncle Joseph Johns, Uncle Monroe Scranton and cousin Steve Johns.
