Lorena Kay Deetz's Obituary
Decatur-Lorena Kay Deetz, 73, of Decatur, passed away at 4:39 a.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Decatur Memorial Hospital with her family by her side.
Services to celebrate Lorena's life will be 10:00 am Friday, December 10, 2010 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Mechem officiating. Visitation will be from 5 ' 7:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Interment with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Music Department of the First Baptist Church, 1320 Arbor Drive, Decatur, IL 62526. Lorena was born July 23, 1937 in Decatur, the daughter of Foster and Naomi (Edwards) Gabhart. She was a graduate of Decatur High School. She was previously employed at Empress Theatre, Decatur Credit Bureau, Mueller Company, Mississippi Valley Structural Steel, Secretary at the First Baptist Church, C.A.P. Inc. in Mt. Zion, she was employed for ten years at Sattley's office equipment, and five years for Striglos-Haines & Essex, and the Decatur Postal Credit Union. Lorena was a member of the First Baptist Church, I.D.A. Sunday School Class and she was a former deaconess. She was very involved in the community also, as she was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Beaumanoir Commandery No. 9, Knights Templar, Decatur Civil War Round Table, Champaign County Civil War Round Table, Macon County Historical Society, the Macon County Genealogical Society and the Order of the Eastern Star Decatur Chapter No. 111. In spare time Lorena enjoyed handicraft work, sewing, reading, and reading her Bible. She married John David Deetz December 18, 1957.
She leaves behind John, her beloved husband of nearly fifty-three years, her daughter Sonya Kay Anthony of Decatur, her sons Steven John Deetz of Cave Junction, OR and Scott William (Lisa) Deetz of Dayton, OH; sister Gloria Jean Baudino of Fayetteville, AR; her brother David Gabhart of Nevada; four loving grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was reunited in Heaven with her parents, and her brother Larry.
