Decatur-Loretta V. McKinney, 88, of Decatur passed away 12:05 pm Sunday, October 11, 2009 at Heartland Health Care Center.
Private memorial services to celebrate Loretta’s life will be held at a later date with entombment beside her husband in the Star of Hope Mausoleum in Graceland Cemetery. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting her family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church. Loretta was born on June 5, 1921 in Hammond, Illinois the daughter of Berton F. and Edna (Wright) Van Curen. She was a graduate of Illinois State University with a degree in business. Loretta and Donald E. McKinney married in 1947. In 1956, Loretta and Don became partners in the Blue Mill Restaurant with Loretta’s sister and brother-in-law Vivian and Hugh McNamee. In 1967 the McNamees retired and Loretta and Don became the sole owners until 1989 when they retired and spent the winters at their condo on Sanibel Island. Don preceded her in death in 1993 and Loretta continued to “winter” on the island where she was an active volunteer for the play houses and art center.
She leaves her son Rick and wife Patti McKinney of Decatur; and a granddaughter Anne Marie McKinney of Champaign.
Loretta was reunited in Heaven with her husband, parents, and two half sisters; Vivian and Cleon.
