Louis James Thomas' Obituary
Decatur – Louis James Thomas, Sr., 67, of Decatur, departed this life on October 23, 2009 at Lincoln Manor Nursing Home.
Homegoing services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Greater Northside Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jimmy E. Waddell. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Friday, October 30, 2009 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Interment with the “Flight Home” Ceremony will be at Graceland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Northside Baptist Church. Louis was born June 26, 1942 in Gunnison, Mississippi, to the late Louis and Helen (Felder) Thomas. He accepted Christ under the leadership of Reverend Hughes. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Rebecca Otis on June 12, 1966 in Gunnison, Mississippi. The couple celebrated 43 years of marriage.
Louis retired from Wagner Casting Company after 36 years of service. He was currently employed at the First Lutheran Church of Decatur, IL. He was a member of the Knight Riders Motorcycle Club, a member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club and the Operation Endurance Support.
Louis leaves to cherish his fond memories: His devoted and loving wife Rebecca, three sons: Quintin (Teresa) Thomas of Vandenberg, California, Napoleon (Khadijia) Thomas of Glen Carbon, IL, and Louis J. Thomas, Jr. of Decatur, one brother: Eddie Lee Thomas of Decatur, four sisters: Maggie Thomas of Chicago, Maudeline Mason of Decatur, Mildred (Aaron, Sr.) Parker of Chicago, and Jane (Jimmy) Cooper of Decatur, three grandchildren: Khamari, Jameah, and Jarmar, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was reunited in Heaven with his parents: Louis and Helen B. Thomas and three sisters: Catherine, Earlean, and Ida B. Thomas, one niece: Gustava Green.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Decatur Memorial Hospital; Dr. Velasco and Lincoln Manor staff.
