Decatur-Louis D. 'Woody' Woods, 76, of Decatur, passed away at 9:56 a.m. December 31, 2010 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services to celebrate Woody's life will be 1 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Macon County Memorial Park. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
Woody was born April 24, 1934 in Decatur, the son of William and Dorothy (Benson) Woods. He proudly served his country in the USAF. He was the owner and operator of B&W Cleaners. He enjoyed country music. He married Beverly Jean (Benton) Thomas on December 3, 1976.
He leaves behind his wife Beverly, children; Susie M. Macary of Florida, Kay Sales of Decatur, Carla Martin of Decatur, and Debbie Hoffman of Hurt, Virginia, sister; Phyllis Matheny, several grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and step-great-grandson; Todd Benton serving in Afghanistan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers; Melvin and Maurice, sisters; Barbara Lacey and Helen Copsy, daughter; Paula Woods, and one step-son.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at DMH ICU South, Nurse Matt, and Dr. Thomas Fulbright for the loving care given to Woody and his family during his illness.
