Lowell Kenneth Silkwood's Obituary
Decatur-Lowell Kenneth Silkwood, 91, of Decatur, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016, in his home with his family by his side.
Lowell was born September 21, 1924 in Alton, Illinois, the son of Charles Henry and Louise Margaret (Behl) Silkwood. He proudly served his country in USMC during World War II. He was previously employed as an engineer with the Wabash and later Norfolk Railroads. Lowell loved walking his dogs, fishing, and yardwork. He married Beatrice May McGuire May 10, 1946 in Decatur. She preceded him in death October 5, 2006.
Lowell leaves behind his daughters Evelyn (Robert) Whitacre, Gretchen Bonds, and Cynthia (John) Higgins, grandchildren Jessica (Brandon) Ellison and Jodi Higgins, and great-grandchildren Kolton and Klayton Ellison and Kaidon Higgins.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Charles Silkwood, and sister Margaret Silkwood.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Venita Edwards-Talley, and the nurses and staff with St. John’s Hospice for all of their loving care.
Services to celebrate Lowell’s life will be 11 AM Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Buzz Swett officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM prior to the services. Burial with military honors conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Homeward Bound Pet Shelter.
