Luella May Smith's Obituary
Luella May Smith, 89, of Decatur, IL, passed away October 30, 2019 at Imboden Creek Living Center.
Luella was born May 11, 1930, the daughter of Edmund Charles and Ruth Ann (Plater) Davidson. She married Paul E. Smith on September 14, 1958 in Decatur, IL.
Luella began her working career as a nursing care giver at Lincoln State School. Following the schools closing, Luella served for 25 years as a secretary for Akorn Pharmaceuticals, formerly known as Taylor Pharmaceutical.
Luella received Christ as her Lord and Savior at Missionary Baptist Church, East St. Louis, IL at the age of seven, where she was raised. She was a 40 plus year member of Trueblood Memorial Methodist Church. Luella will be remembered as an incredible conversationalist and her quick wit. During her leisure, she would enjoy crochet and would make afghans for many people.
Surviving are her husband Paul; children, Carla Showalter (Sid) of Hutchinson, KS, Mark Smith (Brenda) of Forsyth, IL; brother, Sidney Davidson (Rosemary) of Spring Hill, FL; grandchildren, Kristin, Matthew, Sarah, Holly, Becky and great grandchildren, Lillian and Evelyn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Davidson; sister, Mary Rogers and great-granddaughter, Alice.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, November 2, 2019 at Graceland Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM Saturday at the funeral home.
The Smith family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Imboden Creek Living Center, which became like family to Luella.
