Lula Marie Curry's Obituary
Decatur – Mrs. Lula Marie Curry, daughter of Loretta Beal and Manson C. Kendrick, was born on November 9, 1940, in Jackson, TN.
Lula’s mother and stepfather, William Witherspoon, moved the family to Spokane, WA, where they lived on the Army base. Lula attended elementary school in Spokane, WA.
The family moved back to Jackson, TN, in 1946 where Lula attended Jackson South Elementary School. Lula’s family then relocated to Muncie, IN in 1948 where Lula attended elementary and high school until she reached the age of 16. Because of the death of her mother, Lula moved back to Jackson, TN, to live with her Aunt Gracie and family. Later Lula went to live with her grandmother, Clemmie Kendrick.
Lula attended Merry High School and West High School where she met her husband, Isaac Curry, Sr. With this union four sons were born. Lula and her husband moved the family to Decatur, IL, in 1964. Lula was a devoted wife and mother who loved her children and husband. She enjoyed television, cleaning and cooking.
She leaves to cherish her memory her four sons and one daughter: Linda Witherspoon of Decatur, Isaac Curry, Jr, of Decatur, Dennis Curry (Joni) of Decatur, Winston Curry (Elaine) of Decatur, and Otis Curry of Decatur. Lula is also survived by two sisters: Bettie Witherspoon of Decatur and Rosalind Witherspoon of IA; brothers: Norman Kendrick (Shantelle) of Milwaukee, WI, Juarez Witherspoon of Justine, IL, Cedric Witherspoon of Chicago, Dorain Witherspoon of Minneapolis, MN, and Leroy Witherspoon of Atlanta, GA. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Private family graveside services will be held with burial in Graceland Cemetery; Pastor Mary Mabon officiating.
