Lyle E. Bandy's Obituary
Lyle E. Bandy Sr., 90, of Decatur passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in St. Mary’s Hospital.
Lyle was born on August 30, 1923 in Hammond, IL the son of John A and Zora (Watts) Bandy. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Corps from 1943-1946. He was a member of First Christian Church and Stephen Decatur Lodge #979 A.F. & A.M. He worked at the University of Illinois as the supervisor of the Coordinated Science Lab and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He married Verna Blackwell on January 10, 1944 in Decatur. She preceded him in death on April 8, 1995
Surviving are his daughter, Sherry Miller (Martin) of Orange Park, FL; sons, Lyle E. Bandy Jr. (Vickie) of Orange Park, FL; Raymond C. Bandy (Debbie) of Decatur; sister, Cleo Nickell of Hammond; Pat Fleming (Rich) of Decatur; grandchildren: Liane Hannah (Brian), Laura Alfred (Mike), Brooke Ballard (Chris), Brent Bandy (Jessica), Tara Degelamann (Brian), Jason Sanders (Tami), Steve Sanders (Tennille); great-grandchildren, Abby, Brandon, Renee, Raegan, Mason, Nathan, Noah, and Callan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife, Verna, granddaughter, Kari Bandy, four brothers, and two sisters.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and friends at Tanglewood for all their care and support.
Funeral Service to Celebrate Lyle’s life will be 10:30 AM Saturday, December 14, 2013 in First Christian Church with Pastor Wayne Kent officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 – 10:30 AM Saturday in the church. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials are suggested to First Christian Church.
