Jane and family,I was so sorry to hear about Rex's passing. He was one of the nicest co-workers I can remember, a fine reporter and writer with an ever-present smile. My thoughts and prayers are with you.Jan Touneyformer Herald & Review stafferBettendorf, Iowa
I had the pleasure of working with Rex for nearly five years at the Herald & Review in Decatur. He was in sports, I was in features. We sat near each other and often talked about our mutual passion, golf, or life in general.I don't recall Rex ever not having a smile on his face. He was a real gentleman, too. We shared a lot of good laughs over the years, not to mention more than a few beverages at The Lincoln Lounge. Decatur has lost one of the good guys in "Sexy Rexy," a nickname which, when I called him that, always resulted in his infectious smile.
An advocate for countless Decatur golfers. A caring person who made a positive impact on my life.Job well done Rex.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Rex's family. Rex taught me an immeasurable amount of knowledge when I was a 17-year old kid in high school who loved writing, and loved sports, but didn't have experience writing about sports. I still recall working with him on my first "gamer" and having him take a pen to my work. What a true gentleman. It was a blessing to have met him.
One of the sad truths about being around anywhere for any length of time is you get to watch friends fade away. Rex was one of those special friends who made life brigher and more enjoyable, and the world a more interesting place. Thank you, Rex, for your many kindnesses over the years. You were indeed a gentle man. There must be a golf course in heaven, and that gives me some comfort for the welfare of your beautiful soul. Miss you, Sir. Tony Reid.
