M. Louise Semelka's Obituary
Decatur-M. Louise Semelka, 92, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2013, at the McKinley Court Care Center.
She was born February 23, 1921, in Shumway, Illinois, the daughter of Raymond and Geneva (Watts) Huffer. Unlike most women of her day, she worked outside of the home first at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, then at Standard Oil, JC Penney, and ADM Corporate Headquarters in Decatur. She was dedicated to her family, friends, and church. She married William Semelka, a World War II veteran, on March 3, 1946. Louise developed a wide social circle in Decatur. She will be remembered for her tremendous holiday celebrations, which always included impeccable food and decorations. She had a sharp wit, a big heart, a beautiful laugh, and gorgeous personal style in clothing and accessories. Later in life she became a devoted grandmother to her two grandchildren. Her granddaughters were especially fond of visiting her, often during school breaks from their home in Chicago.
She leaves behind her children Raeann Spencer and Jim Semelka, grandchildren Sara Semelka and husband Brad Griffith of Oak Park and Jennifer Semelka of Madison, Wisconsin, and daughter-in-law Kathy Semelka.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.
