Decatur-Mabel P. Howlett, 84, passed away 3:20 am Thursday, November 25, 2010 with her daughter at her side.
Services to celebrate Mabel's life will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, November, 30, 2010 graveside in Fairlawn Cemetery with Pastor Kirk Henneberry officiating. Services will conclude with the 'Flight Home' ceremony. Her family request casual attire. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting her family with these arrangements. Mabel was born July 9, 1926 in Findlay, IL the daughter of Kenneth and Ivadeen (Majors) Park. She was a graduate of Findlay High School. Mabel married Jim Coleman and their marriage was later dissolved in a divorced. To this marriage her only child Susan was born. Mabel was married to Kenneth Howlett on December 4, 1971 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2005. Mabel was employed as a bookkeeper/receptionist and retired from IMA in 1991. She was a member of VFW Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, and the American Legion. Mabel enjoyed dancing, bowling, shopping, reading mysteries, watching TV and family time.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter Susan Grandfield of Decatur; step-grandson Steven Grandfield of Decatur; niece Joan Smith of Decatur; nephew Jack (wife-Pam) Howell of Findlay; special friends Rose and Norm Jargon, Vicki Scherer, and Dottie Hanneberry all of Decatur; and her constant feline companions Sassy and Maggie.
She was reunited in heaven with her parents Kenneth and Ivadeen Park, her husband Kenneth, and her sister and brother-in-law Helen and Bill Schwalbe; and son-in-law Everett 'Granny' Grandfield.
