Mable Lee Houston's Obituary
Mable L. Houston, 92, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, in Park Ridge, IL.
Services to celebrate Mable’s life will be held on Friday, May 28, 2021 at 2:00pm at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home with Pastor Dr. Ray Clark officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family with these arrangements. Interment with the "Flight Home" ceremony will be at Graceland Cemetery following the service. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Baptist Bible Church.
Mable was born November 15, 1928 in Oxford, Mississippi, the daughter of Elbert and Mattie (Porter) Houston.
She leaves behind one son: Donnie Houston of Decatur, and one daughter: Toma (Antonio) Romero of Chicago. She also leaves behind 3 grandchildren: Simone of Decatur, Brooklyn of Texas, and Giovanni of Chicago, three great-grandchildren, and an abundance of friends and family. She was reunited in heaven with her daughter Angeline, her parents, six brothers, 4 sisters, and five grandchildren.
Mable was one of the founding members of Baptist Bible Church. She served as the church pianist, Sunday School teacher, and on the Missionary Board. Mable opened her home and heart to at least 28 foster children. The last of these children, Toma, legally became Mable's daughter. Toma will forever be grateful for the love and opportunities provided to her, by Mable. She will be missed by so many, who experienced her love.
