Malvern "Curly" Joseph Schwent's Obituary
Decatur- Malvern Joseph “Curly” Schwent, 87, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2014 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Curly’s life will be 1pm, Monday, November 3, 2014 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 2160 N. Edward St. Decatur, with Rev. Richard Welton, Celebrant. Visitation will be 5-7pm Sunday, November 2, 2014 in Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with military honors, and conclude with a “Flight Home” ceremony. Memorials are suggested to the St. Thomas Apostle Church.
Curly was born August 19, 1927 in Crystal City, MO son to Herbert and Rose Schwent (Muessig). He married Ruth Burch on November 23, 1946 in Ste. Genevieve, MO. She preceded him in death on March 4, 2005. They shared fifty-nine wonderful years together. He served in the United States Army as a medic. He retired from PPG as a inspector with over forty years of service. He was a member of St. Thomas Apostle Church. He enjoyed playing pool, raising hunting beagle dogs, loved going to shooting matches, and an avid story teller.
He is survived by his sons Bob (Patty) Schwent of Decatur, Tim (Laura) Schwent of Decatur, Tom (Julie) Schwent of Decatur, grandchildren; Suzette Schwent of Phoenix, AZ, Eric Schwent of FL, Lisa Pauline of CO, BJ Schwent, Decatur, Jared Schwent of Springfield, Jake Schwent of Decatur, Stephanie Schwent, FL; great-grandchildren Avery and Bryson, all of his Missouri Family & long-time friends, and his many acquaintances he met along the way who would stop and listen to one of his many stories on his trips to the local grocery stores and the DMH Cafeteria.and a host of families members and loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, parents, son Alan J. Schwent, brother Herbert Schwent, sister Mary Carol Schwent.
The family would like to give a special thanks and gratitude to Dr. Khan & staff, Eagle Ridge & Heartland Health staff, and lastly DMH Nurses Tammy, Sharon, & Diasia for all their loving care and compassion for Curly.
