Margaret G. Henderson's Obituary
Margaret Henderson, 88, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Hickory Point Christian Village.
Margaret was born January 26, 1930 in Decatur, Illinois the daughter of Frederick and Wilhelmina (Barr) Lipka. She married Robert “Bob” Henderson on August 15, 1951. He preceded her in death on April 8, 2009.
Margaret worked for Tallman Cadillac prior to becoming a full time homemaker and mom. She returned to work after several years at home and retired from Rodgers Shoes in 1990. She was an active member at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and volunteered at the LSA Resale Shop. Margaret loved to be outdoors. She shared the bounty of her garden with family, friends, and neighbors. She was an avid cook and baker. She always had cookies or a pie to share with whoever stopped by for a visit.
Margaret and Bob enjoyed fifty-seven years together and spent many days on Lake Shelbyville boating and fishing. They enjoyed traveling during their retirement and spent the month of February at Cape San Blas, Florida for several years.
She is survived by her children Peggy (Jeff) Sites, Robert (Amy) Henderson, and Lori (Jim) Eaton, grandchildren Matt Sites, Libby (Nolle) Bond, Molly (Bobby) Baker, Ashley (Nate) Tomasi, Jordan (Kelley) Henderson, Jake Henderson, and Katy Henderson, and great-grandchildren Natalie, Aiden, Griffin, Max, Everett, and Oliver.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and five sisters.
Margaret was the last family member of her generation to be called to her heavenly home.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Khan, the nurses and staff at Hickory Point Christian Village, and Pastor Brett Heinrichs for all of their loving care, prayers, and support.
Services to celebrate Margaret’s life will be 11:00 AM Monday, April 2, 2018 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services. Burial to follow in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
