Margot was born September 27, 1941, in Decatur, Illinois, the daughter of Cecil and Hazel Brown and sister to Linda Plambeck all of whom predeceased her. She attended the public schools of Decatur and graduated from Millikin University with a degree in Education. She taught grade school in the Chicago suburbs while her childhood sweetheart, Michael (Mike) Maurer, finished his bachelor’s degree at Northwestern University. Margot and Mike were married for 44 years before his passing in 2008. Margot was a devoted wife, beloved mother, and adored Nana. She is survived by her three daughters: Marta DeThomas of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Marilyn Maurer of Chicago, Michele Palma and her husband Giulio Palma of Chicago and the Maurer grandchildren: Bradley and Anna DeThomas, Luca and Nicolo Palma, and her niece Amy Tymeson.
Margot spent the majority of her life in Decatur, IL and she and Mike enjoyed lifelong friendships from their shared youth together. Margot touched the lives of countless people with her sincere interest and thoughtfulness. She became a tireless caregiver who helped ease the lives of her mother, our beloved Melva, and her husband, Mike, all of whom sadly predeceased her. She was a constant reassuring presence to her daughters and encouraged them to follow their dreams, wherever it might take them. She enjoyed her grandchildren greatly and loved nothing more than to follow their lives and adventures. Margot will be greatly missed by the many lives she touched.
The family would like to thank Susanah Perez for the devoted and loving caregiving she gave to Margot for the past six years. Obituary written by family members.
