Maria Boyko's Obituary
Decatur-Maria Boyko, 95, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, formerly of Decatur, passed away Monday, December 13, 2010 at Auburn Hills Health and Rehab Center in Mountain Home, Arkansas. She had relocated there to live with her son Wally in 2001.
Services to celebrate Maria's life will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home. Interment with 'Flight Home' Ceremony will be in Graceland Cemetery. Online condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.gracelandfairlawn.com.
Maria was born May 10, 1915 in Peremyshel, Ukraine, the daughter of Danylo and Horpyna (Fesenko) Wowk. She married Trofim George Boyko in 1939 at St. Peter's Orthodox Church in Peremyshel, Ukraine. She was held in a Concentration Camp during W.W II in Hamburg, Germany. Maria came to the United States in 1950 as displaced person with her husband and sons, Wally and Lee. She acquired U.S. citizenship in 1961. She worked in the clothing industry sewing women's clothing for Simplicity Frock on Eldorado St. in Decatur into the 1970's. She was a member of the Ladies Garment Workers Union. Upon retirement, she worked at the Decatur Senior Citizen's Center at John's Hill Park preparing meals. She was an avid gardener and loved to cook. Due to her love of sewing family and friends brought all of their alterations to Maria because she did such a wonderful job.
Maria leaves behind to cherish her memory, son; Lee Boyko and wife Susan of University Park, IL, grandson; Chris Allen of San Diego, and great-grandchildren; Trevor and Ainsley Allen of San Diego.
Maria was greeted into Heaven by her parents, husband, and son; Wally Boyko.
