Marilynn A Madden's Obituary
Marilynn Ann Amdal Madden died on December 18, 2025. She was 102 years
old.
She was born on July 3, 1923, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Marie and Rasmus Amdal. In 1944, Marilynn married Dean Madden, moved to Decatur with her husband, and lived there until her death.
Marilynn was a member of the First United Methodist Church and an active participant in the Decatur community all her life. She worked tirelessly to support the refurbishment and maintenance of Governor Richard J. Oglesby Mansion in Decatur. She volunteered for the American Red Cross for many years and was an active member of the Decatur chapter of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) which provides support for women’s education. Marilynn was also a founding member of “The Bridge Club”, a group of eight women who met regularly for lunch for more than forty years to play bridge (only occasionally) and talk (A LOT) about their lives, their families, and their world. Marilynn was the last member of the group to die.
Marilynn leaves her daughter, Deborah Williams, 3 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Dean, and son, David, preceded her in death.
Marilynn was a kind person with a good heart. She lived a good life and will be missed by all, especially by her family that loved her so very much. A life well lived.
A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Madden at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church, 201 W. North St, Decatur, IL 62522.
